Steven Kazan is the founding and senior partner of Kazan, McClain, Satterley & Greenwood in Oakland, California. He has represented asbestos victims since filing his first case in 1974, and most of his practice involves workers with mesothelioma suing manufacturers, contractors, distributors and property owners. He has also represented people with asbestos-related lung cancer and asbestosis.

Kazan has served, by appointment of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, as a committee member or counsel to victim members in nearly every major asbestos bankruptcy reorganization, including W.R. Grace, Owens Corning/Fibreboard, Armstrong World Industries and Garlock. He chairs the asbestos creditors’ committees in the Bestwall and Thomas Dee Engineering cases and serves on, or chairs, the trust advisory committees that work with many of the resulting trusts. He has testified before the Senate and House Judiciary Committees on asbestos litigation and has presented research at international mesothelioma conferences.

Before founding the firm, he worked for the general counsel of the Interstate Commerce Commission, served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of California and practiced at a San Francisco medical malpractice firm. He earned his LL.B. from Harvard University in 1966 and his A.B. from Brandeis University in 1963. He is a past president of the Alameda-Contra Costa Trial Lawyers Association and a former vice president of Consumer Attorneys of California.
