Marc J. Shuman is the founder and lead attorney of Shuman Legal, a Chicago, Illinois, personal injury practice. He and his team represent people hurt in car, truck and motorcycle crashes, workplace injuries and other accidents, as well as families pursuing wrongful death claims.

Shuman’s approach starts with a client’s immediate needs after an accident, such as securing medical care and managing unpaid medical bills, before turning to insurance claims for lost wages and property damage. The firm brings in outside specialists when a case calls for them, including accident reconstructionists, physicians, engineers, life care planners and economists. One case the firm highlights involved a 40-year-old worker who was electrocuted while moving a fallen battery cabinet inside a delivery truck; after years of litigation against the cabinet’s manufacturer, Shuman and his team settled shortly before trial and structured the recovery to provide lifetime payments.

Shuman earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1983 and his law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1986. He belongs to the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association and several bar associations, and he is a founding member of the National Academy of Motorcycle Injury Lawyers.
