Douglas E. Fierberg is the founder of The Fierberg National Law Group and a trial attorney based in Traverse City, Michigan. He represents victims and survivors nationwide in cases arising from school and campus violence, hazing, sexual abuse and assault, mass shootings, catastrophic injury and wrongful death.

More than three decades ago, Fierberg broadened a commercial trial practice in Washington, D.C., into a national practice for victims of school violence, beginning with cases for a sexually assaulted high school student and a college student hospitalized after fraternity hazing. He was lead counsel for 20 families affected by the April 2007 Virginia Tech shooting, a matter that ended in a settlement with the Commonwealth of Virginia valued at more than $11 million, and has since represented victims of shootings at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, the Washington Navy Yard and a St. Louis arts high school.

Fierberg earned his law degree with honors from George Washington University’s National Law Center and a psychology degree with class honors from the University of Michigan. He is admitted in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Michigan. He is a founding member and chair of the American Association for Justice’s Schools: Violence, Misconduct & Safety Litigation Group, a past president of the National Crime Victim Bar Association and the 2023 board chair of the Women’s Resource Center of Traverse City, and he has written widely on hazing and campus safety.
